Meredith Voorhees

Licensed professional clinical counselor; supervisor (she/her)

I believe in a therapeutic space that is safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental.

Welcome!  My name is Meredith Voorhees, LPCC-S, and I consider it a privilege to do the work that I do.  I’d love to share more about my approach to therapy and my experience in order to help you decide if I might be the right person to walk with you on your journey toward healing and growth.

I consider myself most rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and assist clients with fostering a mindful, nonjudgmental approach to their thoughts, emotions, and internal experiences while identifying choices and behaviors that align with their values and what they find most enriching in their lives.

However, because each client and their story is unique, I endeavor to take a client-centered approach in my work and recognize that one size does not fit all when it comes to therapy! I work to collaborate with clients and tailor services to meet their individual needs by integrating aspects of CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Activation, and somatic therapies when applicable. I am also EMDR trained, and can assist clients with reprocessing traumas from the past so these experiences have less of a damaging, intrusive, or unwanted effect on today.

If a client chooses to pursue services with me, they can expect a safe, trauma-informed space in which to process and navigate the symptoms they experience, the impact they have had on their lives, and the meaningful ways in which they can cope and begin to move forward in new and more effective ways. I believe in partnering with my clients to create a collaborative environment for growth and healing.  Every individual has the capacity to identify and change patterns that no longer serve them, and tolerate new ways of being that will allow them to reach their therapeutic goals. I’m proud and privileged to walk with clients on their unique journeys, and would love to talk more with you about how we can start down that path today.

TRAINING & EDUCATION

I have experience in treating adults in a variety of care settings, including community mental health and acute crisis care.  I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Bowling Green State University, and my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Ohio University, and have been practicing in the mental health field for over a decade.  I worked briefly in addiction services before moving on to serve in an acute mental health crisis unit. As a result of my years in mental health crisis care, I will also always have a special place in my heart for clients struggling with serious mental illnesses (SMI) such as Bipolar Disorder or Schizophrenia.  In my private practice work, I currently treat clients with a variety of concerns including but not limited to anxiety, depression, grief, OCD, ADHD, trauma, and addiction.  I have found fulfillment in working with clients who are also fellow mental health providers to address the unique concerns that come with working in the field.

The modalities I specialize in include:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

  • Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)
